New Date! Heart Health with South Shore Health

Learn about how you can improve the health of your heart with a free session presented by cardiac nurse specialist Karen LaFond. LaFond will present on various aspects of basic heart health including learning about heart disease, how you can track your blood pressure and test your cholesterol, taking appropriate medicines, and the importance of keeping active while eating healthy nutritious meals.

This program is the part of the collaboration of health literacy sessions between the Tufts Library in Weymouth and the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.

LaFond has been a cardiac nurse specialist for 38 years. She has BSN degree from Villanova University, MSN degree specializing in Cardiac Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. LaFond has specialized in the field of Cardiac Rehabilitation since 1992 and is the Nurse Manager of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at South Shore Hospital, since 2003. She has given lectures pertaining to cardiac health and other topics to various groups including physicians, nurses, AHA seminar groups, professional organizations and the general public.

LaFond is a Past President of the Massachusetts Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Society (MACVPR), for which she served two terms. She has been a pioneer in utilizing technology/new innovations in providing cardiac rehabilitation services on both a state and national level in our rapidly changing health care environment.
