February's Movie Theme is Oscar Winners for "Best Picture" Romances.

The February 1st film is It Happened One Night and it won the Oscar Award in 1934. It's produced and directed by Frank Capra (of It's a Wonderful Life fame) and is one of the last pre-Code films to be made prior to the enforcement of the 1930 Motion Picture  Production Code, which was an early attempt to control the moral content of films.

It Happened One Night stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, as a socialite and newspaper reporter,  in which a pampered socialite tries to get out from under her father's thumb and falls in love with a roguish reporter.

It Happened One Night is the first of only three films (along with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Silence of the Lambs) to win all five major Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. In 1993, it was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
