Saturday, April 232:00—3:30 PMChildren's Program RoomTufts Library46 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA, 02188

For kids ages 8-12

Mantra is an active muralist who paints giant trompe l'oeil butterfly specimen boxes on the sides of buildings. The lesson will include some basic information about insect anatomy, and a slideshow of the Tufts Library Butterfly Collection. The project will entail the kids making butterflies/beetles on paper then cutting them out and folding them so that the wings are three-dimensional. Then the butterflies/beetles will be attached inside of a small box made from folded card stock paper. Upon completion, the students will name their insects with a faux-Latin name. They final products will be temporarily displayed in the Children's Room of the Tufts Library. This program is funded by a grant from the Weymouth Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
