Weymouth Reads Together: Reverse Painting with Pop Up Art School

Saturday, September 710:00 AM—12:00 PMMultipurpose Room 138Tufts Library46 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA, 02188

Weymouth Reads Together is a shared community experience around one book. This is our first “one book, one community” initiative specifically for Weymouth. From September through November, Tufts Library will host events for adults related to our chosen book, The Times that Try Men's Souls by Joyce Lee Malcolm.

One of the causes of the American Revolution was the rejection of the Townshend Act by the colonists. The Townshend Acts added taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper and tea.

Learn about the centuries-old art of reverse glass painting and create your own reverse painting! Choose from three images, and paint it using acrylic paint on clear acetate. Reverse painting techniques have been used since the 16th century. In reverse painting, the details are painted first and then the larger shapes. It's the reverse order of how one usually paints on paper or canvas where we start with the background, add medium to large shapes and then details. Once the image has been painted, it is viewed from the opposite side through the clear acetate.

Registration for this event has now closed.
