Meet the Playwright: Ronan Noone

Ronán Noone will discuss his journey from immigrant to citizen, from bartender to writer, and from Ireland to Weymouth. He will read excerpts from his gripping, award-winning play The Smuggler, which tells the story of Tim Finnegan, an Irish immigrant who comes to America in search of the dream but struggles to keep his family together until he is offered an opportunity to slip into the dark shadows of human smuggling and undocumented labor. Ronán Noone is the author of ten plays including The Lepers of Baile Baiste, The Blowin of Baile Gall, Brendan, The Atheist, Thirst and The Smuggler. His plays have enjoyed productions across America, including numerous Off-Broadway productions and regional productions at the Huntington Theatre Company, Boston and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Recent international productions have taken place in the UK, Spain, Canada, the Philippines and Ireland. He has received three Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards for Best New Play; an Elliot Norton Outstanding Script Award; a Kennedy Center National Playwriting Award; a Edgerton New American Play Award, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Award for Excellence in Playwriting and the Best Playwright Award at the 1st Irish Festival of NY, 2019.
