Weymouth Granite: The Stone that Built Us

Saturday, October 211:00 AM—12:00 PMMultipurpose Room 138Tufts Library46 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA, 02188

Join second generation stone mason/designer, Derek Stearns, for a talk about the history of Weymouth Granite and it's use in the new Tufts Library. Derek's talk will conclude with a walk outside to have a look at the granite in place.

The history of Weymouth Granite is a story that started millions of years ago as it formed just below the earth’s surface. Little did the small NE town of Weymouth know it was going to bring their own granite to the attention of building experts around the world. Not only has Weymouth Granite put the town of Weymouth on the map but it also helped my family and myself build careers that we could only have dreamed of. Granites have been used in building projects since ancient times and our Weymouth Granite continues to be used in buildings all over the world including our new Weymouth Tufts Library.

You may know Derek Stearns from his television work with PBS and DIY networks; his podcast, "Lets Go To Work"; or from his speaking engagements around the country.
